The Challenge
A working horse barn in Long Prairie had what most older ag buildings have: a dirt floor. Dust in summer, mud in spring, impossible to keep clean, and hard on everything that rolls or walks across it. The owners wanted a real floor — durable, cleanable, and poured around the existing stalls without disrupting the building.
What We Did
- Graded and compacted the existing dirt base inside the barn
- Set screed rails and formed doorways and transitions
- Placed 20 yards of concrete in a single coordinated pour
- Worked around existing stalls and posts cleanly
- Finished with a broom texture for animal and equipment traction
- Cut control joints so the big slab cracks where planned, not at random
The Result
One pour day later, the barn has a flat, broom-finished floor that sweeps clean, drains right, and handles hooves, tractors, and Minnesota winters. The before-and-after says it better than we can.
